Bicyclist Seriously Injured in St. Petersburg Hit-and-Run, Police Looking for Suspect

St. Petersburg (5/21/2020) – The St. Petersburg Police Department is looking for a car involved in a hit-and-run that left a bicyclist seriously injured Thursday morning. The crash occurred around 9:35 a.m. at the intersection of 30th Avenue South and Martin Luther King Street South. According to police, the bicyclist, whose identity has not been released, was trying to cross 30th Avenue when they were hit by a dark gray or black Nissan Altima traveling north. The driver of the Nissan then fled the scene of the crash. Emergency responders rushed the bicyclist to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg to be treated for serious injuries. St. Petersburg police believe that the suspect’s car has significant damage on the left-hand side of the front bumper. Man in St. Petersburg Arrested in Connection With a Hit-and-Run Involving Bicyclist

Pinellas Park, FL (5/16/2020) – Pinellas Park Police arrested a man in St. Petersburg who was involved in a hit-and-run crash that left a bicyclist seriously injured on Friday night. The crash occurred around 9:00 p.m. at the 7600 block of US 19 near 78th Avenue. According to Pinellas Police, 60-year-old John Turley was trying to cross US 19 on his bicycle when 50-year-old Timothy Manzi struck him with his vehicle and fled the scene. Emergency responders rushed Turley to the hospital where he is in serious but stable condition. Neither of Manzi’s passengers were injured in the crash. Witnesses of the hit-and-run followed Manzi and reported his location to the police. He was taken into custody and was charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving a serious injury and driving with a suspended license. Hit-and-Run on Gandy Boulevard Leaves 6-Year-Old Girl Seriously Injured

St. Petersburg, FL (5/14/2020) – A 6-year-old girl is in serious condition after a motorcyclist struck her outside of an apartment complex on Wednesday night. The crash happened at about 10:30 p.m. at the 10600 block of Gandy Boulevard near Derby Lane.  The Florida Highway Patrol says that the girl was crossing Gandy Boulevard when she was hit by a motorcyclist heading west who immediately fled the scene of the crash. Troopers found a piece of the motorcycle that broke off during the collision and posted it on social media in hopes that someone will come forward with information.  Investigators did not state if the girl was accompanied by any adults or walking with other children when she was hit. Pedestrian Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash on Hillsborough Avenue

Tampa Bay, FL (5/12/2020) – Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash that left one pedestrian dead early Tuesday morning. The crash happened around 5:00 a.m. at the intersection of West Hillsborough Avenue and North Dale Mabry Highway. According to officers, the male pedestrian, who has not been identified, was hit while crossing the street. Suspected Drunk Driver Causes Major Crash, Injuring Six People Including Two Officers

Valrico, FL (5/10/2020) – Six people, including two Sheriff’s deputies, were injured after a suspected drunk driver crashed into an unmarked police cruiser early Sunday morning. The crash occurred just before 2:00 a.m. on Highway 60 near Church Street. According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, two DUI investigators were parked in the median of Highway 60 when a car driven by 25-year-old Aaron Major crashed head-on into one of their unmarked cruisers. The two officers, Major, and three of Major’s passengers were transported to several hospitals with moderate injuries. Everyone is expected to recover from the accident. Investigators say that Major claimed to fall asleep at the wheel, but they suspect that alcohol was a factor in the crash. 21-Year-Old Woman Dies After Single-Car Crash on Interstate 4

Pedestrian Accident in New Port Richey Leaves One Man Dead and Two Children Seriously Injured

New Port Richey, FL (5/7/2020) – One adult and two children were hit Thursday night after they walked into the path of an oncoming vehicle in New Port Richey. The accident happened around 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Seven Springs Boulevard and Perrine Ranch Road. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an unidentified 35-year-old man walked into the intersection with four children when he was struck by a vehicle that had a green light. Troopers say that the driver tried to avoid the pedestrians, but ended up hitting the male, a 10-year-old girl, and a 16-year-old girl. All three were taken to the hospital, but the male later died from his injuries. The condition of the two female victims is unknown at this time. The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash. Two of the other children walking with the man, a 12-year-old girl and a 13-year-old girl, weren’t hit during the accident. One Person Dies After Teen Gets Distracted by Their Phone and Crashes into a Tractor Trailer

Palm Coast, FL (5/6/2020) – A teen driver who was involved in a fatal crash on Wednesday morning told investigators that she got distracted by her phone shortly before the collision. The crash occurred around 3:00 a.m. on I-95 in Palm Coast.  According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the teenager, whose identity has not been released, was driving south on I-95 when she became distracted by her phone, which caused her to drift into the other lane. The teen’s vehicle then struck a tractor trailer, causing the truck to hit the guardrail and overturn. While the teen only suffered minor injuries in the crash, the 56-year-old truck driver died at the scene of the accident. According to troopers, both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. Investigators have not released whether the teen driver faces any charges at this time.
