Tampa Man Dies in Fiery I-4 Crash Thursday

Mango, FL (11/28/2019) – A 51-year-old man from Tampa died in a fiery crash early Thanksgiving morning. The crash happened on westbound I-4 near Mango Road around 12:20 am. Florida Highway Patrol stated that the man drove a Pontiac G5 west on I-4 when he collided with a parked tow truck. The tow truck parked on the shoulder of the road. The Pontiac burst into flames, and the driver died at the scene. Police are still investigating the cause of the crash. The name of the victim is unknown, pending the notification of the next of kin. Motorcyclist in Critical Condition After I-275 Crash

St. Petersburg, FL (11/21/2019) – A motorcyclist suffered severe injuries in a crash on Thursday. The crash happened on northbound I-275 around 9:35 am.  The collision involved a Chevrolet Malibu, a Nissan Rogue, and a motorcycle. Traffic slowed near 54th Avenue S. at that time. The driver of the Chevrolet Malibu, Diane A. Carker, 58, failed to slow down and stop for the stalled traffic. She hit the 56-year-old motorcyclist in front of her, causing him to run into the Nissan in front of him. Paramedics transported the 56-year-old Bayfront man to Bayfront health in serious condition. No one else suffered from injuries in the crash.  Charges are pending for the driver of the Malibu. Our hearts go out to all of those impacted by this tragedy. Motorcyclist Dead in U.S. 301 Crash

Pasco County, FL (11/23/2019) – David Engberg, 29, died in a collision Saturday afternoon. The crash happened on U.S. 301 near Daughtry Road around 12:25 pm. According to the Florida Highway Patrol,  a Chevrolet Sonic driven by Shirley Ann Brooks, 73, failed to yield and turned into the path of the oncoming motorcycle driven by Mr. Engberg.  Engberg wore a helmet but died from his injuries at the scene of the collision. Ms. Brooks suffered minor injuries. EMTs transported her to Advent Health Zephyrhills for treatment. Police stated that alcohol was not a factor in the crash and that charges are pending. Four Students Injured After a Van Crashes into a Bus Stop in Tampa

Tampa, FL (11/18/2019) – Four students suffered minor injuries after a van crashed into their bus stop. The collision happened at the intersection of Florida Avenue and Ida Street. The crash occurred on Monday around noon. The students waited for the bus when a chain-reaction crash sent the van into their bus stop. It started with a silver Acura trying to make a left turn onto Florida Avenue. The car failed to yield to an oncoming Chevrolet pickup. The driver of the Chevrolet swerved to miss the Acura and struck a Nissan van. That crash caused the driver of the van to lose control, swerving onto the sidewalk and hitting the bus stop.  Paramedics transported the teens to the hospital. Their injuries ranged from Road Rash to cuts and bruises. All drivers stayed behind and cooperated with the police investigation. There are no criminal charges expected. However, the driver of the Acura received a citation for careless driving. Our hearts go out to all of those impacted by this tragedy. Pedestrian Seriously Injured in Palm Harbor Crash

Palm Harbor, FL (11/18/2019) – A pedestrian suffered severe injuries on Monday when a car hit her in a crossing area. The crash happened on Alderman Road just west of U.S. 19 North at the entrance of a UPS store around 12:43 pm. Troopers say that the driver, Lorraine M. Lemire, 78, left the UPS store and failed to see a pedestrian in her path. EMTs transported Frances Vasques, 68, to Bayfront Health after the collision.  Lemire did not sustain any injuries. Man Dies in Hillsborough Crash, Car Splits in Half

Hillsborough County, FL (11/17/2019) – A man from Central Florida died in a crash early Sunday morning. The crash happened on Interstate 275 at mile marker 55 near Bearss Avenue around 4 am.  Cliff J. Pierre Jacques, 32, drove north when his BMW sedan left the road at high speed. Mr. Jacques failed to negotiate the curves in the street. The BMW traveled off the east side of the road and collided with a tree. The force of the impact caused the car to split in half and ignite. The BMW disintegrated. Jacques died at the scene of the crash. Police said that alcohol did play a role in the collision. Our hearts go out to all of those impacted by this tragedy. One Dead in Pasco County Crash on U.S. 301

Pasco County, FL (11/15/2019) – The driver of an SUV died after colliding with a semi-truck Friday afternoon. The crash happened on U.S. 301 at the intersection of U.S. 98 around 2:05 pm. The driver of the SUV, Arnold Lee Koranda, 80, turned left onto U.S. 98 from a gas station. He proceeded down the road where it intersects with U.S. 301. He turned left into the path of an oncoming semi-truck. The truck struck the left side of the SUV.  Mr. Koranda died at the scene from his injuries. The front-seat passenger Suzette Marie Koranda, 65, sustained severe injuries. EMTs transported her to Lakeland Regional Medical Center. Paramedics transported the other passenger, Lucas McMahan, 1, to St. Joseph’s Hospital with minor injuries. Police stated that alcohol was not a factor in the crash. One Dead in DUI Crash Involving Meth in Riverview

Riverview, FL (11/15/2019) – A man, 31, caused a crash while under the influence of methamphetamines on Friday. The collision happened on I-75 around 5:48 am.  Jeremy Guerrero drove his 2017 Toyota Corolla southbound on I-75 at high speed. He noticed a Hillsborough County Sherrif’s office cruiser ahead of him and braked. Guerrero lost control of his vehicle and side-swiped a 2009 Dodge van driven by Maria Delourdes Perez, 57.  Both vehicles came to rest on the west shoulder of the road. The Dodge struck a tree head-on while the Corolla rolled and struck several trees.  Paramedics transported Delourdes Perez to a hospital. She died of her injuries later in the day. Guerrero and his passenger, Mary Kathryn Sonzogni, 31, suffered minor injuries. They did not go to the hospital. Delourdes Perez wore her seatbelt at the time of the crash. Guerrero and Sonzogni did not wear their seatbelts. Police booked Jeremy Guerrero into the Hillsborough County jail with charges of a DUI manslaughter and driving with a license suspended or revoked involving death. Two Dead in Fiery Multi-Vehicle Crash in New Tampa

New Tampa, FL (11/13/2019) – Two people died in an eight-vehicle crash Wednesday night. The collision happened on I-75 near mile marker 272 around 6 pm.  Reports from the Pasco fire rescue said two people died at the scene of the crash, and EMTs transported six others to the hospital. Paramedics took care of two other victims at the scene.  The northbound lanes of I-75 closed Wednesday night until 8 am the next day. Police did not release the identities of the two victims. According to accident reports, the collision involved a total of eight vehicles.  Reports said that traffic slowed a semi-truck did not slow down. It moved into the center lane to avoid a collision. It then rear-ended a Chevrolet Equinox, which hit a Buick Verano, which hit a BMW. The semi-truck continued forward and hit a Mercedes and the back of another semi-truck. Fire rescue said that the Mercedes got trapped between the two semi’s, and the first semi ended up on top of the Mercedes. Both got engulfed in flames. Driver Sought in Hit-and-Run Involving Cyclist

St. Petersburg, FL (11/15/2019) – Police released a video of a cyclist hit by a driver who then fled the scene on November 1st. The crash happened at the crossing of 49th Street on Pinellas Trail. In the video, we can see the cyclist throw his arms in the air in anger as drivers do not yield. The cyclist gets hit by a Chrysler 200 and proceeds to flee the scene. The video shows that the cyclist did not stop at the crossing sign, but the crosswalk is marked, and there are flashing yield lights that turn on when pedestrians or bicyclists are present. It is unclear if the lights were going at the time of the collision.  Regardless, since the driver fled the scene, they could face serious consequences. The victim, Steven Weldon, suffered broken bones, but the injuries were not considered life-threatening.  Reportedly, the driver stopped to move the bicycle out of the road but then got back in their car and drove away. People are asked to call St. Petersburg police, 727-893-7780 if they have any information. Updated: 11/20/2019 After this collision went public people started asking who was in the wrong. Many people believed that the bicyclist was obligated to stop at the stop sign in the crossing. However, in the video released by police, it is clear that two other pedestrians stopped, pushed the yield button, and crossed. Mr. Weldon is not at fault even though he could have exercised more caution. Police are still searching for the driver. Our hearts go out to all of those impacted by this tragedy.
