Palm Harbor, FL (4/1/2020) – A woman died Tuesday afternoon after crashing into another vehicle on US 19. The accident happened around 5:19 p.m. just north of Alderman Road.

The Florida Highway Patrol states that Melanie Cohen, 55, was driving north on US 19 in her 2006 Chevy HHR when she lost control of the vehicle. Cohen crossed the median and collided with a southbound 2018 Audi Q5 driven by 74-year-old Adrenne Wygonik.

Both vehicles came to rest on the west shoulder and the southbound travel lanes of US 19. Cohen was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and died at the scene. Wygonik suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Mease Countryside Hospital.

Troopers do not suspect alcohol impairment as a factor in the crash and are still investigating the cause of the accident.
