Crash on Howard Franklin Bridge Injures Three

Hillsborough County, FL (5/5/2020) – Three people were injured Tuesday morning when a tow truck slammed into a pickup truck on the Howard Franklin Bridge. The accident occurred around 3:21 a.m. on I-275 near mile marker 36.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 62-year-old man was driving his tow truck north on the Howard Franklin Bridge when he lost control. The tow truck then traveled into the shoulder of the road and hit the rear of a pickup truck with two occupants, which was parked ahead of a construction lane closure sign.

The 49-year-old man who was driving the pickup truck was seriously injured and was taken to the hospital, where his condition is currently unknown. His passenger, a 25-year-old man from Lake Panasoffkee, only suffered minor injuries. The driver of the tow truck also only had minor injuries after the accident.

The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the cause of the crash. So far, no charges have been filed.
