Zephyrhills, FL (11/04/2019) – A multi-vehicle crash ended with one dead and two injured Monday afternoon. The crash closed part of U.S. 98 in Pasco County.

Troopers said that one truck, driven by Edward Holzer Jr., 53, drove north along U.S. 98 and crossed the center line and struck two tractor-trailers. Ophny Duclos, 41, and Barren Spivey, 48, drove the two other tractor-trailers. One ended up jackknifed on the side of the road.

Holzer’s truck ended up on its side off the road. The crash also involved a Chevy Colorado and a Chevy Tahoe; the occupants did not suffer any injuries.

The crash spilled several gallons of fuel. It is still unknown what caused Holzer to cross the center line, though he didn’t wear a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The closed portion of the highway has since reopened.

Our hearts go out to all of those impacted by this tragedy. Truck accidents like this one occur far too often in Florida. It’s essential that fatal semi-truck accidents be thoroughly investigated so that the cause of the collision can be understood, and the responsible party can be identified and, if warranted, held accountable.
