Tampa Bay, FL (10/12/2019) – A woman died in a wrong-way crash on I-275 early Saturday morning.

Aryail Marie Gomez, 39, drove her Mazda southbound in the northbound lane around 4:44 am. It is unclear when she started driving the wrong way according to a release from Florida Highway Patrol.

Around the 59 mile marker, Gomez collided with a Maserati. Brittany Castilleja, 30, drove the Maserati sedan.

Gomez died at the scene. EMTs transported Castilleja to St. Josephs’s Hospital with serious injuries.

At this time police are not sure if alcohol or drugs were involved in the accident.

Our hearts go out to all of those impacted by this tragedy. Car crashes like this one occur far too often in Florida. It’s essential that fatal collisions be thoroughly investigated so that the cause of the collision can be understood, and the responsible party can be identified and, if warranted, held accountable.
