Man in Clearwater Charged With DUI After Injuring a Pedestrian

Clearwater, FL (6/14/2020) – A man in Clearwater is facing DUI charges after seriously injuring a pedestrian in a crash on Saturday night. The crash occurred around 11:55 p.m. on Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard near Arcturas Avenue.

According to the Clearwater Police Department, 20-year-old Ezequiel Mezquite was driving west on Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard in his 2015 Toyota Camry when he struck a 35-year-old man from Largo who was trying to cross the street. The victim had life-threatening injuries and was rushed to Morton Plant Hospital. He was later transferred to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where his current condition is unknown.

When police arrived, Mezquite showed signs of impairment and was arrested for DUI and possession of marijuana. He was booked into the Pinellas County Jail the night of the accident.
