One Person Dies After Teen Gets Distracted by Their Phone and Crashes into a Tractor Trailer

Palm Coast, FL (5/6/2020) – A teen driver who was involved in a fatal crash on Wednesday morning told investigators that she got distracted by her phone shortly before the collision. The crash occurred around 3:00 a.m. on I-95 in Palm Coast.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the teenager, whose identity has not been released, was driving south on I-95 when she became distracted by her phone, which caused her to drift into the other lane. The teen’s vehicle then struck a tractor trailer, causing the truck to hit the guardrail and overturn. While the teen only suffered minor injuries in the crash, the 56-year-old truck driver died at the scene of the accident.
According to troopers, both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. Investigators have not released whether the teen driver faces any charges at this time.
