One Woman Killed in 5-Vehicle Crash on US 19

New Port Richey, FL (5/30/2020) – A five-vehicle pileup left one Crystal River woman dead and several with minor injuries early Saturday morning. The accident happened around 1:00 a.m. at the intersection of US 19 and Beacon Woods Drive.
The Florida Highway Patrol says that the 41-year-old victim was driving her SUV north on US 19 when she came to a complete stop at the intersection’s red light behind two cars driven by a 22-year-old from Weeki Wachee and a 26-year-old from Tarpon Springs. Another car, driven by a 62-year-old man from New Port Richey, was also stopped at the light in the southbound turn lane.
When the light turned green, the man from New Port Richey began to make a left turn onto Beacon Woods Drive when a 31-year-old man driving north on US 19 in his pickup truck slammed into the rear of the victim’s SUV. The impact caused the SUV to become airborne and land on top of the car driven by the Tarpon Springs man, sending debris flying at the driver turning left onto Beacon Woods Drive.
The 41-year-old woman in the SUV died at the scene of the accident, while the other drivers and one passenger sustained minor injuries. Troopers say that alcohol impairment of the pickup truck driver is a factor in the accident, but did not say if he was facing any charges for drunk driving.
