Two Dead in Separate Polk County Crashes

Polk County, FL (10/05/2019) – Polk County authorities are still investigating two separate fatal accidents from Saturday.
In Mulberry:
At the intersection of North Church Avenue and East Badcock Boulevard, 79-year-old Earl Jones Jr. was driving his 2006 Toyota Highlander. He crossed into the path of an oncoming 2001 Chevy Bucket Truck and the two vehicles collided. The accident happened around 9 am.
The truck, driven by 34-year-old Michael Pultz made a left-hand turn in front of the oncoming semi. Mr. Pultz was not injured. EMTs transported Earl Jones Jr. to the hospital where he died from his injuries. Both men were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.
In Frostproof:
A four-vehicle collision occurred. The accident happened in the 6200 block of US 98 North. Three of the vehicles involved were motorcycles.
The accident killed 62-year-old Michael Pisciotta. A large group of motorcyclists were riding together around 12:15 pm. They were going eastbound. Another car, driven by 22-year-old Caitlyn Yockey, was traveling westbound. A small animal ran into the road in front of the motorcyclists and several took evasive action.
Ms. Yockey slammed on her breaks but lost control of her 2006 Honda Accord. Mr. Pisciotta was not wearing a helmet while driving his 2014 Harley Davidson and died from his injuries after arriving at the hospital.
Ms. Yockey sustained minor injuries and EMTs transported her to the hospital. Angel Gerardo Rios, one of the motorcyclists, has minor injuries and EMTs also transported him to the hospital. Another, Carlos Cains, was diagnosed with minor injuries but was not transported. Both of those motorcyclists were wearing helmets.
The investigations into both accidents are still ongoing.
