What You Need to Know About American International Group Accident Settlements

Recovering compensation after a Florida car accident can take time, and the insurance claims process is not always straightforward.

Many accident victims worry that insurance companies, including American International Group (AIG), may look for reasons to reduce the value of a claim or deny it altogether.

Understanding how the claims process works can help you avoid common mistakes and put yourself in a better position when pursuing an American International Group accident settlement.

Steps to Take After a Car Accident

The actions you take immediately after a car accident can have a significant impact on your injury claim.

If your condition allows, you should:

  • Stop and check yourself and others for injuries.
  • Contact law enforcement so the accident can be officially documented.
  • Exchange names, insurance information, and contact details with everyone involved.
  • Gather any evidence that may support your claim.
  • Take photos of the accident scene, vehicle damage, and any visible injuries.
  • Speak with witnesses and obtain their contact information if they are willing to help.
  • Seek medical care so your injuries can be properly evaluated and documented.
  • Continue paying attention to any new or worsening symptoms over the days and weeks that follow.

If your injuries are serious, your priority should always be getting emergency medical treatment.

Insurance companies may question or dispute a claim for many different reasons. Taking these steps and preserving as much evidence as possible can strengthen your case and help support your request for compensation.

What to Do If You Are Insured by American International Group

After addressing your immediate medical needs and gathering information from the accident scene, you should begin the insurance claims process as soon as possible.

If your policy is through American International Group and you suffered injuries or property damage in a crash, one of your first responsibilities will be reporting the accident to the company. Many insurance policies require prompt notice, and waiting too long could affect your ability to recover benefits.

You can report a claim through the American International Group website or by contacting the company’s claims department at 1-800-225-5244. If you would like more information about its insurance products and claims services, you can also visit American International Group’s main website.

After your claim is opened, American International Group will assign a claims adjuster to review the accident, evaluate the available evidence, and discuss settlement options with you.

Remember that you are not required to accept the first settlement offer you receive. Before signing any agreement or accepting payment, it is a good idea to speak with an experienced personal injury attorney who can determine whether the offer fairly reflects the value of your claim.

What to Do If American International Group Contacts You

If you are not insured by American International Group but are contacted by one of its representatives after an accident, keep in mind that you are not required to provide a recorded statement or answer questions without first understanding your rights.

The insurance company represents its own policyholder, not you. Because of that, its goal may be to limit its financial responsibility by disputing liability or offering less compensation than your claim may be worth.

Speaking with another driver’s insurance company can be stressful, especially while you are recovering from your injuries. An experienced car accident attorney can communicate with American International Group on your behalf, protect your interests during negotiations, and review any settlement offer before you decide whether to accept it.

American International Group Pain and Suffering Settlement Examples

$150,000 / American International Group Bodily Injury Settlement

On the morning of December 30, 2024, our client was driving westbound in the right lane of I-4 on her way to work when a tractor-trailer attempted to merge into her lane from the center lane. The truck struck our client’s vehicle, causing it to spin several times before finally coming to a stop. After investigating the crash, police determined that the tractor-trailer driver was at fault for violating our client’s right of way.

An ambulance transported our client to Lakeland Regional Medical Center. She reported neck pain and discomfort between her shoulders. She also had blood on her face but was unsure where it had come from, so doctors performed a CT scan of her head. Fortunately, the scan did not reveal any abnormalities.

Following the accident, our client sought treatment for her bodily injury with a chiropractic office for ongoing neck and back pain. A cervical MRI later revealed a disc herniation in the lower part of her neck, leading the chiropractor to refer her to an orthopedic specialist. In addition to a neck sprain, she was diagnosed with cervical radiculopathy, a condition that caused numbness and tingling down her left arm due to a pinched nerve in her neck. Because of the severity of her injuries, her doctor advised that she was a candidate for cervical discectomy and fusion surgery to relieve pressure on her spine. However, she ultimately decided not to undergo the procedure and completed her treatment shortly afterward.

We initially demanded $250,000, emphasizing that our client’s bodily injury could require surgery in the future to address the damage to her neck. Protective Insurance, the insurer for the owner of the tractor-trailer, responded with an initial offer of $95,000. Given that our client had stopped treatment and had approximately $14,000 in unpaid medical expenses, this was a solid starting offer. We continued negotiating for a fair resolution and ultimately persuaded the insurance company to increase its offer to $150,000. Our client was pleased with the outcome and the successful resolution of her case.

Estimate the Potential Value of Your Injury Claim

If you were injured in an accident involving American International Group (AIG) insurance, our American International Group Injury Settlement Calculator can provide a general estimate of what your personal injury claim may be worth. The calculator considers common factors that influence settlement value, including medical expenses, lost income, and pain and suffering.

Keep in mind that this calculator is intended to provide only a rough estimate. Every injury claim is different, and the amount you ultimately recover will depend on the specific facts of your case, the available evidence, and the insurance coverage involved. For a more accurate evaluation, it is always best to speak with an experienced personal injury attorney.

How to Use the American International Group Injury Settlement Calculator

Our calculator is designed to be quick and easy to use. Simply enter the requested information to receive an estimated settlement range.

Enter Your Medical Expenses: Include the total cost of medical treatment related to your injuries, including hospital visits, physician appointments, rehabilitation, physical therapy, prescription medications, and other necessary medical care.

Add Your Lost Income: If your injuries prevented you from working, enter the wages or income you have lost. This may include earnings from your regular job, self-employment, or other sources of income.

Estimate Pain and Suffering: Because pain and suffering damages do not have a fixed dollar amount, the calculator uses a multiplier, generally between 1.5 and 5, to estimate these non-economic losses based on the information you provide.

Provide Accident Details: Enter information about how the accident happened, including who was at fault and any other circumstances that could affect the value of your claim.

After completing each section, the calculator will generate an estimated settlement amount based on common personal injury claim factors.

Factors That Can Affect Your Settlement

Like other insurance companies, American International Group reviews many different factors before extending a settlement offer. Some of the most important considerations include:

  • The seriousness of your injuries: Injuries requiring extensive treatment, surgery, rehabilitation, or ongoing medical care generally result in higher settlement values.
  • Medical documentation: Thorough medical records, treatment notes, diagnostic imaging, and physician opinions can help support your claim.
  • Liability: When another party is clearly responsible for causing the accident, your claim may have greater value. If you are found partially responsible, your recovery could be reduced under Florida’s modified comparative negligence laws.
  • Insurance policy limits: American International Group cannot pay more than the available policy limits unless additional insurance coverage or other legal options apply.

Many other case-specific factors can also influence the final value of a personal injury settlement.

Why Use the American International Group Injury Settlement Calculator?

An online settlement calculator can be a helpful starting point if you want a general idea of what your injury claim may be worth. However, no calculator can predict the exact value of your case. Settlement amounts often depend on the strength of the evidence, the severity of your injuries, insurance coverage, and the outcome of negotiations.

If you are pursuing a claim involving American International Group, this calculator can help you understand the factors that commonly affect compensation. For a more personalized evaluation of your case, it is a good idea to speak with an experienced personal injury attorney before accepting any settlement offer.
