We often get asked whether it’s okay to speak with the other driver’s insurance company before calling a lawyer. Our advice is almost always no.
Insurance adjusters are not neutral. They work for the insurance company, and their job is to save that company money. They are trained to ask questions that may lead you to minimize your injuries or say something that can be used to reduce or deny your claim.
We have seen many cases where a person gave a recorded statement without realizing how it could affect their ability to recover compensation. Adjusters may seem helpful, but their goal is not to protect your interests.
Before you answer their questions or sign any paperwork, talk to us. We can take over communication with the insurance company and make sure nothing is said or done that could hurt your case.
