Five-Vehicle Crash on I-4 Leaves Two Dead, Three Injured

Polk County, FL (8/1/2020) – Two people died and three others were injured after being involved in a five-vehicle crash on I-4 Friday morning. The accident occurred at 10:03 a.m. in the westbound lanes of the interstate at mile marker 33. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 22-year-old man from Lakeland was driving his sedan west on the interstate when he drifted out of his lane and crashed into a tractor-trailer driven by a 56-year-old man from Ontario, Canada. The impact caused the sedan to run into a cable barrier in the center median and enter the eastbound lanes of the interstate. A 37-year-old man from Orlando driving east then slammed head-on into the sedan. After the impact, a 25-year-old woman from Estero hit the car of the Orlando man, causing it to overturn onto the shoulder of the road. Another tractor-trailer driven by a 57-year-old man from Tampa then hit the sedan of the Lakeland man before crashing into a fence. Police say that the Orlando man and his passenger, a 37-year-old woman from Davenport, died from their injuries. The man from Lakeland suffered serious injuries, while the Estero woman and the Tampa man only received minor injuries. Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the accident. Crash Involving a Semi-Truck and a Sports Car Leaves One Person Dead

Tampa, FL (7/29/2020) – A man from Land O’ Lakes was killed Wednesday morning after semi-truck ran into his car at a traffic stop. The crash occurred at 2:20 a.m. on East Hillsborough Avenue, just west of Harney Road. The Florida Highway Patrol says that the 49-year-old man was driving his car west and was stopped at a red light near the NetPark Tampa Bay campus. Then a semi-truck, driven by a 28-year-old man from Texas, failed to stop and slammed into the back of the car. Both of the vehicles eventually came to a rest in the median. The driver of the car died at the scene of the accident, while the truck driver only suffered minor injuries. Troopers are still investigating the cause of the crash. Pedestrian Hit and Killed in St. Petersburg While Crossing 4th Street

Couple from Safety Harbor Critically Injured in Crash With a Tractor-Trailer

Motorcyclist from Spring Hill Killed in Crash on US 19

New Port Richey, FL (7/20/2020) – A man from Spring Hill, FL died Sunday morning after crashing into stopped traffic on US 19. The accident occurred around 10:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes of US 19 just north of Beacon Woods Drive. Man in Clearwater Charged With DUI After Injuring a Pedestrian

Clearwater, FL (6/14/2020) – A man in Clearwater is facing DUI charges after seriously injuring a pedestrian in a crash on Saturday night. The crash occurred around 11:55 p.m. on Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard near Arcturas Avenue. According to the Clearwater Police Department, 20-year-old Ezequiel Mezquite was driving west on Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard in his 2015 Toyota Camry when he struck a 35-year-old man from Largo who was trying to cross the street. The victim had life-threatening injuries and was rushed to Morton Plant Hospital. He was later transferred to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where his current condition is unknown. When police arrived, Mezquite showed signs of impairment and was arrested for DUI and possession of marijuana. He was booked into the Pinellas County Jail the night of the accident. Polk County, FL (6/7/2020) – One woman died and several other people were injured after a crash involving five vehicles on I-4 Thursday morning. The accident happened around 6:40 a.m. just east of US 98. The Florida Highway Patrol states that a 22-year-old Lakeland woman was driving her sedan west on I-4 when she attempted to change lanes. The rear of her sedan hit the front right bumper of a car driven by a 38-year-old Orlando man, causing both cars to crash into the median.  The Lakeland woman’s car then broke the barrier and hit a pickup truck driving in the eastbound lanes of the interstate head-on. A car driven by a 55-year-old man from Port Charlotte attempted to avoid the crash but was hit by a tractor-trailer. The tractor-trailer then hit the pickup truck, causing it to travel across the median. Emergency responders rushed the Lakeland woman to the hospital, where she later died from her injuries. The 55-year-old driver of the pickup only suffered minor injuries, but his 44-year-old and 48-year-old passengers were seriously injured. A 55-year-old woman from Port Charlotte was also seriously injured in the crash. The Charlotte man, however, only suffered minor injuries. The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident. Eastbound lanes of I-4 were closed until around 10:46 a.m. while crews worked the scene. Hit-and-Run Crash in Hillsborough County Leaves One Bicyclist Dead

Hillsborough County, FL (5/31/2020) – Police are looking for the suspect of a hit-and-run that killed a bicyclist early Sunday morning. The crash occurred around 1:00 a.m. on State Road 674 just west of 24th Avenue Southeast. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an unidentified driver of an orange Toyota Corolla or Camry was heading east on State Road 674 when they hit a bicyclist traveling the same direction in the outside lane. The bicyclist died at the scene of the accident and the driver immediately fled. One Woman Killed in 5-Vehicle Crash on US 19

New Port Richey, FL (5/30/2020) – A five-vehicle pileup left one Crystal River woman dead and several with minor injuries early Saturday morning. The accident happened around 1:00 a.m. at the intersection of US 19 and Beacon Woods Drive. The Florida Highway Patrol says that the 41-year-old victim was driving her SUV north on US 19 when she came to a complete stop at the intersection’s red light behind two cars driven by a 22-year-old from Weeki Wachee and a 26-year-old from Tarpon Springs. Another car, driven by a 62-year-old man from New Port Richey, was also stopped at the light in the southbound turn lane. When the light turned green, the man from New Port Richey began to make a left turn onto Beacon Woods Drive when a 31-year-old man driving north on US 19 in his pickup truck slammed into the rear of the victim’s SUV. The impact caused the SUV to become airborne and land on top of the car driven by the Tarpon Springs man, sending debris flying at the driver turning left onto Beacon Woods Drive. The 41-year-old woman in the SUV died at the scene of the accident, while the other drivers and one passenger sustained minor injuries. Troopers say that alcohol impairment of the pickup truck driver is a factor in the accident, but did not say if he was facing any charges for drunk driving. Motorcyclist in Pasco County Killed After Car Turns in Front of Him

Pasco County, FL (5/28/2020) – A man from Hudson was killed Wednesday night after a car turned in front of his motorcycle. The crash happened around 10:00 p.m. at the intersection of Clayton Boulevard and Hudson Avenue. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an unidentified 28-year-old motorcyclist was driving east on Hudson Avenue when a car driven by an unidentified 68-year-old man made a left turn in front of him. Driver Crashes Through the Front of a Publix Liquor Store, Injuring Three

Dade City, FL (5/23/2020) – Two people were taken to the hospital after a minivan crashed into a Publix liquor store in Dade City on Saturday afternoon. The crash occurred around 2:00 p.m. at a Publix Shopping Center located at 11798 US Highway 301. According to the Dade City Police Department, an unidentified 79-year-old woman left the parking area of the shopping center, jumped a curb, and drove into the front of the liquor store. Her 2003 Dodge minivan came to a stop 28 feet inside the store. A male employee and a female customer were struck by the minivan and taken to Lakeland Regional Hospital to be treated for their injuries. Police say the employee suffered a cut on his arm and various upper-body injuries, while the customer had a few cuts from glass and debris. The driver of the minivan was also taken to the hospital, but the severity of her injuries was undisclosed. Bicyclist Critically Injured After Collision With a Garbage Truck in Madeira Beach

Madeira Beach, FL (5/23/2020) – A bicyclist is in critical condition after colliding with a garbage truck on Saturday morning. The accident happened around 7:30 a.m. on Gulf Boulevard near John’s Pass. Pedestrian Accident in New Port Richey Leaves One Man Dead and Two Children Seriously Injured

New Port Richey, FL (5/7/2020) – One adult and two children were hit Thursday night after they walked into the path of an oncoming vehicle in New Port Richey. The accident happened around 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Seven Springs Boulevard and Perrine Ranch Road. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an unidentified 35-year-old man walked into the intersection with four children when he was struck by a vehicle that had a green light. One Person Dies After Teen Gets Distracted by Their Phone and Crashes into a Tractor Trailer

Palm Coast, FL (5/6/2020) – A teen driver who was involved in a fatal crash on Wednesday morning told investigators that she got distracted by her phone shortly before the collision. The crash occurred around 3:00 a.m. on I-95 in Palm Coast.  According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the teenager, whose identity has not been released, was driving south on I-95 when she became distracted by her phone, which caused her to drift into the other lane. The teen’s vehicle then struck a tractor trailer, causing the truck to hit the guardrail and overturn. While the teen only suffered minor injuries in the crash, the 56-year-old truck driver died at the scene of the accident. According to troopers, both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. Investigators have not released whether the teen driver faces any charges at this time. Crash on Howard Franklin Bridge Injures Three

Hillsborough County, FL (5/5/2020) – Three people were injured Tuesday morning when a tow truck slammed into a pickup truck on the Howard Franklin Bridge. The accident occurred around 3:21 a.m. on I-275 near mile marker 36. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 62-year-old man was driving his tow truck north on the Howard Franklin Bridge when he lost control. The tow truck then traveled into the shoulder of the road and hit the rear of a pickup truck with two occupants, which was parked ahead of a construction lane closure sign. The 49-year-old man who was driving the pickup truck was seriously injured and was taken to the hospital, where his condition is currently unknown. His passenger, a 25-year-old man from Lake Panasoffkee, only suffered minor injuries. The driver of the tow truck also only had minor injuries after the accident. Clearwater, FL (5/4/2020) – A woman from Clearwater and her passenger were taken to the hospital Sunday night following a crash with a pickup truck on the Courtney Campbell Causeway. The accident happened around 11:00 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of the causeway. According to the Tampa Police Department, 36-year-old Diana Sofia Sandoval was heading west on the causeway in her 2018 Nissan Sentra when she lost control of the vehicle and hit a guardrail. She then over-corrected and drove into the eastbound lanes of the causeway, hitting a 2011 Ford F-150 driven by Eduardo R. Reices head-on.  Emergency responders rushed Sandoval to St. Joseph’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries. T-Bone Crash in Dania Beach Kills One, Injures Two

Dania Beach, FL (4/29/2020) – A Florida woman died after being involved in a T-bone crash in Dania Beach city limits on Monday night. The accident happened around 8:00 p.m. at the intersection of North 22nd Avenue and Charleston Street. According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, 69-year-old Pamela Veronica Ennis was heading east on Charleston Street in her 2008 Toyota Corolla approaching North 22nd Avenue. At the same time, 19-year-old Jerrold Giwayne Pough Jr. was heading south on North 22nd Avenue in his 2019 Dodge Charger. Both drivers entered the intersection at the same time. The Charger hit the driver’s side door of the Corolla which caused both vehicles to slide across the road. Hollywood Fire Rescue rushed both drivers and a passenger in the Charger to Memorial Regional Hospital. Ennis later died at the hospital from her injuries, while Pough Jr. and his 19-year-old passenger Alvaris Dawson Jr. are still being treated for their injuries. The Broward Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the cause of the crash. Investigators don’t know who had the right of way at the intersection and have not filed any charges. Pinellas Park, FL (4/14/2020) – A man died Tuesday morning after being involved in a collision at a Pinellas Park intersection. The accident happened around 8:00 a.m. at the intersection of Park Boulevard and Belcher Road. According to the Pinellas Park Police Department, Nathan Marcum was driving his Chrysler 200 south on Belcher Road when he stopped at the intersection for a red light. Another driver, whose name has not been released, was heading west on Park Boulevard in their Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and entered the intersection during a green light. Police say that Marcum entered the intersection at the same time for unknown reasons, hitting the Jeep. The collision caused the Chrysler to spin and hit another vehicle that was stopped at the light. First responders attempted to rescue Marcum, but he passed away at the scene from his injuries. Crash in Palm Harbor Kills One, Injures Another

Palm Harbor, FL (4/1/2020) – A woman died Tuesday afternoon after crashing into another vehicle on US 19. The accident happened around 5:19 p.m. just north of Alderman Road. The Florida Highway Patrol states that Melanie Cohen, 55, was driving north on US 19 in her 2006 Chevy HHR when she lost control of the vehicle. Cohen crossed the median and collided with a southbound 2018 Audi Q5 driven by 74-year-old Adrenne Wygonik. Both vehicles came to rest on the west shoulder and the southbound travel lanes of US 19. Cohen was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and died at the scene. Wygonik suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Mease Countryside Hospital. Lehigh Acres, FL (3/26/2020) – Three people were seriously injured after a head-on collision involving three vehicles Thursday morning. The accident happened on State Road 82 at Gun Club Road. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 52-year-old Acquimene Louis XVI was heading west on State Road 82 in a construction zone when he tried to pass traffic in a no passing zone. Louis veered into the eastbound lane while passing vehicles and struck a vehicle driven by 18-year-old Kendra Rivera head-on. Both Rivera and her passenger, 26-year-old Martray Harris, were seriously injured. Louis’ car then rotated and struck 53-year-old Holly Christiano, who was driving behind him in an unmarked Lee County Sheriff’s Office vehicle. Christiano did not sustain any injuries in the collision. Rivera, Harris, and Louis were rushed to Lee Memorial Hospital, where Louis is still in critical condition. Dade City, FL (3/25/2020) – A motorcyclist from Dade City died Tuesday night after another driver traveled into the path of his motorcycle. The accident occurred at 7:00 p.m. near the intersection of County Road 41 and Bozeman Road. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 22-year-old Brook A. Everett was heading north on County Road 41 in his 2015 Nissan Rogue when he passed a pickup truck and re-entered the northbound lane. After re-entering the lane, Everett drove onto the grass shoulder and lost control of his SUV. The vehicle careened across the southbound lane of County Road 41 and into the path of a motorcycle. Troopers say that John J. Ward, 55, and his 1985 Honda 1200 motorcycle struck the right side of Everett’s vehicle. Ward died at the scene of the accident, while his passenger, 49-year-old Patricia E. Pisa was rushed to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa with critical injuries. Everett and his passengers were not injured in the crash. New Port Richey, FL (3/22/2020) – A woman died four days after a car hit her in New Port Richey last week. The accident occurred on March 18 around 10:00 p.m. on Ridge Road just west of Lemon Road. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 59-year-old Anna Dziadel was walking on the shoulder of Ridge Road when she stepped into the path of a 2017 Kia Forte. The car hit Dziadel and emergency services rushed her to the hospital. She died from her injuries on Saturday. The identity of the man driving the Kia has not been released. 68-Year-Old Motorcyclist Airlifted to Hospital After Crash

Dunnellon, FL (3/16/2020) – Emergency responders airlifted a motorcyclist after he hit the side of a vehicle last Wednesday. The accident occurred around 4:58 p.m. at the intersection of US 41 and West Dunnellon Road.  According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 68-year-old John Dickey Reese was driving his maroon 1986 Honda Gold Wing south on US 41. When he ran the red light at West Dunnellon Road, he collided with a white 2016 Jeep Renegade turning north onto US 41. Reese was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and was airlifted to Ocala Regional Medical Center where he remains in serious condition. The driver of the Jeep, 25-year-old Isaac Corey Abbott, and his passenger, 31-year-old Elizabeth Ann Blout, weren’t injured in the crash. The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident, but they don’t suspect drugs or alcohol contributed to the incident. Clearwater, FL (3/18/2020) – A man from Tarpon Springs died Tuesday night when he was struck by a vehicle while crossing the highway. Woman Arrested for DUI Manslaughter After Killing One in Crash on Alamo Drive

Tampa, FL (3/9/2020) – A Tampa woman was arrested for DUI manslaughter in connection with an accident that killed another person Friday morning. The crash occurred just before 2:00 a.m. on Adamo Drive. The Tampa Police Department states that Tanaya Marcia Davis, 35, was driving west on Adamo Drive when she lost control of her car and crashed into the side of another vehicle. Crash on I-75 in Sarasota Leaves 3 Dead, 2 Injured

Sarasota, FL (3/9/2020) – An accident on I-75 involving a cement truck and six other vehicles left three people dead and two others injured on Monday morning. The crash occurred around 7:30 a.m. on I-75 near the Fruitville exit. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a man was pulled over on the side of the interstate due to mechanical issues with his Dodge Durango. Uber Driver in Haines City Arrested, Charged with DUI Manslaughter and Vehicular Homicide

Haines City, FL (3/6/2020) – A 27-year-old Uber driver has been arrested for his role in an accident that killed his passenger earlier this year. The accident occurred on January 8 at the intersection of US 17/92 and Shamrock Driver. According to the Haines City Police Department, Uber driver Clint Fischer Jr. picked up 30-year-old Estevan Pascual in Orlando to drive him to Uncle Pete Road. While driving on US 17/92, Fischer’s car began drifting off the road and ran into the back of a stationary semi-truck at full speed. Emergency personnel attempted to perform CPR on Pascual, who died at the scene. Fischer was taken to AdventHealth Heart of Florida for moderate facial injuries. During the investigation, officers found a glass pipe in Fischer’s car that tested positive for methamphetamine. After getting a warrant for a blood test, police took a blood sample from Fischer which showed that he was under the influence of both meth and marijuana at the time of the accident.  Police arrested Fischer at his home on March 5 upon completion of the investigation. University of Tampa Student Arrested After Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Bicycle Crash

Tampa, FL (3/5/2020) – A 22-year-old Tampa resident has been arrested after he killed a bicyclist and left the scene. The crash occurred on Wednesday around 7:00 p.m. on West Gray Street near North Gomez Avenue. According to the Tampa Police Department, Seth Lapensohn was driving his 2016 Jeep Wrangler east on West Gray Street when he hit a bicyclist on the shoulder of the road. After hitting the bicyclist, Lapensohn left the scene of the accident for 50 minutes before returning and identifying himself as the suspect. The bicyclist, whose name has not been released, died at the scene. Police promptly arrested Lapensohn when he returned to the scene. He smelled like alcohol and showed signs of impairment. A breath test showed that Lapensohn only had a blood alcohol level of 0.008, but he also tested positive on a drug recognition exam.  He faces charges of DUI and leaving the scene of an accident involving a death. Five-Year-Old Dies After Hit-and-Run Crash in Hillsborough County

18-Year-Old Woman in St. Petersburg Arrested for Vehicular Homicide After Crash That Killed Two Teens

St. Petersburg, FL (2/28/2020) – Police arrested a driver on Thursday who killed two teenagers in a crash on I-275 in February. Erinasha Jania Porshay Jones, 18, was booked into the Pinellas County Jail and is being held with a $200,000 bail.  The accident occurred at 6:20 a.m. on February 8. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Jones was driving north on I-275 in her 2003 Toyota Camry with two passengers, 17-year-old Keeoshia Edwards and 16-year-old Jiana Minaya. Meanwhile, 38-year-old Ernesto Leon was also driving his 2008 Chevrolet Silverado north with his 33-year-old passenger Juan Alvarez. When the Camry approached the 22nd Avenue North exit, Jones attempted to cross multiple lanes of traffic to get on the exit ramp. While doing so, she drove into the path of the Silverado and hit the driver’s side of the truck. The Camry spun out, went off the shoulder of the exit ramp, and crashed into two trees. Emergency responders took the three occupants of the Camry to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with serious injuries. Edwards and Minaya later died at the hospital. The two men in the Silverado did not sustain any injuries. Troopers did a blood test on Jones and found that her blood alcohol content was 0.066, which is just below the legal limit of 0.08. They also noted that her clothes smelled like marijuana. Troopers presented the evidence to a circuit judge, who signed a warrant for Jones’ arrest. She now faces two counts of vehicular homicide. Pasco County Crash Leaves One Dead, One Injured on US 301

Pasco County, FL (2/27/2020) – A crash between an SUV and a car on US 301 left one person dead and another critically wounded on Wednesday night. The accident occurred around 9:45 p.m. on US 301 just south of Ashbrook Drive. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 43-year-old April Ann Musgrove was driving her 2013 Chevy Malibu south on US 301 when a 2006 GMC Sierra going north went over the median and hit her head-on. The driver of the GMC, 28-year-old Donathan Paul Buck II, partially entered the shoulder of the road, overcorrected, and lost control of his vehicle. After hitting Musgrove, the GMC flipped over. Musgrove died at the scene of the accident. Emergency services rushed Buck to Lakeland Regional Hospital with critical injuries. Two Pedestrians Killed After Being Hit By a Truck on Mulberry Road

Mulberry, FL (2/25/2020) – An accident in Polk County left two pedestrians dead Monday night. The crash occurred on State Road 60 around 8:21 p.m. just east of Coronet Road. According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the driver of the semi-truck, a 54-year-old male whose name has not been released, crossed the fog line and hit two male pedestrians. The pedestrians, 29-year-old Rafael Gandoy and 23-year-old Armando Melendez, were walking east of the paved right-of-way.  Gandoy died at the scene of the accident. Melendez had a faint pulse and was transported to Lakeland Regional Health, where he later passed away. The driver of the semi-truck remained at the scene and is cooperating with deputies.  During their initial investigation, State Road 60 was closed for nearly five hours. Third Teen of US 92 Crash Dies Over the Weekend

Hillsborough County, FL (2/24/2020) – A teenage passenger who was injured in an accident on US 92 this past Saturday has died, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Edgar A. Ortiz, 14, died from his injuries at Tampa General Hospital on February 23rd after being airlifted from the site of the accident. The crash occurred on February 22nd at about 12:38 a.m. on US 92 near Turkey Creek Road. According to troopers, Camilo E. Mustacchio, 17, was driving a 2008 Ford Escape with his friends west on US 92 when he crossed the median and struck a 2005 Peterbilt semi tractor-trailer driven by 61-year-old Petar Lakic. The vehicles collided head-on, killing Mustacchio and one of his passengers, 15-year-old Lexi R. Lapointe. Ortiz, who was a passenger, survived the initial impact with life-threatening injuries but later died in the hospital. The driver of the tractor trailer was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the cause of the accident. Suspect in Deadly St. Petersburg Hit-and-Run Arrested in Tennessee

St. Petersburg, FL (2/18/2020) – A man suspected of killing a motorcyclist in St. Petersburg earlier this month was arrested in Tennessee on Tuesday. Keith White Jr., 38, was taken into custody for a crash that killed Brendan Hawkins, 24, on February 8. The accident happened at the intersection of 37th Street and 5th Avenue South at 7:40 p.m. The St. Petersburg Police Department states that White turned left into the path of Hawkins, who was riding his 2017 Suzuki motorcycle east on 5th Avenue South. Hawkins’ motorcycle clipped the back right bumper of the car, causing it to violently crash. White drove off and Hawkins died at the scene of the accident. White is currently scheduled to be extradited back to Pinellas County and faces several charges. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested Ryan after she fled the scene of the accident. Gomez-Hernandez’s family is taking steps to file a lawsuit against Ryan and possibly her mother, who owns the blue Chevy Equinox involved in the accident. The family’s attorney, Gil Sanchez, also states that the county should better maintain crosswalks at the intersection to prevent future tragedies. There have been 18 other accidents at the intersection in the past four years. Ryan currently faces a first-degree felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident involving a death, which carries a sentence of up to 30 years in prison. Motorized Scooter Driver Dies After Crashing on Gulf Boulevard

Treasure Island, FL (2/16/2020) – One New Port Richey resident is dead after crashing their motorized scooter on Gulf Boulevard late Saturday night. The crash occurred at 10133 Gulf Boulevard in the northbound lane around 11:15 p.m. The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office says that Nolan Ryan Webb, 27, was driving a rented 2015 Yamaha scooter north when he failed to navigate a curve in the road. He veered off of the street and struck a bush, a utility pipe, and a cement wall before coming to a stop. Pedestrians discovered Webb nearly two hours after the crash and immediately called 911. When Treasure Island Police and Fire Rescue arrived, they pronounced Webb dead at the scene.  According to investigators, Webb was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Truck Driver Arrested for Hit-and-Run in Tampa That Left One Bicyclist Dead

Tampa, FL (2/12/2020) – A hit-and-run accident with a pickup truck left a 28-year-old bicyclist dead on US 301 last November. The truck driver has now been charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident and destruction of evidence. The crash occurred on November 12 around 4:40 a.m. The Florida Highway Patrol states that Jacob Weinert, 28, was heading to work and riding his bike south along US 301 when he was struck by a pickup truck driven by Steven Duane Baker, 61. Baker hit Weinert from behind and then left the scene. Weinert died at the scene of the accident. The Florida Highway Patrol received a call from Baker more than 24 hours after the accident saying that he hit something, but did not know what it was.  Police arrested Baker at his home and booked him into the Orient Road Jail. Investigators found his damaged 2003 Dodge pickup truck, which Baker admitted to spray-painting to cover up evidence. Ryan now faces a first degree felony charge of leaving the scene of a crash involving a death, which is punishable by up to 30 years in prison.  At the time of the accident, she worked in a customer call center for the Department of Children and Families, which offers an economic self-sufficiency program to Tampa families in need. Pedestrian Hit and Killed on Lakeland Highlands Road in Polk County

Lakeland, FL (2/11/2020) – A highway worker was killed on Monday afternoon after being hit by a truck near the Polk Parkway in Polk County. The accident occurred around 12:14 p.m. at the 4000 block of Lakeland Highlands Road. According to the Lakeland Police Department, Abraham Ira Remchuk, 42, was on the inside northbound lanes of the road performing survey work. Remchuk was then hit by a 2006 Ford F-150 truck driving north on Lakeland Highlands Road.  The driver, 19-year-old Bryce Warneke, claimed that she looked down momentarily at her speedometer and did not see Remchuk until it was too late.  The impact caused Remchuk to hit another passing car before falling onto the roadway. Warneke immediately stopped her truck and called 911. Emergency services rushed Remchuk to Lakeland Regional Health, where he later died from his injuries. Investigators state that Remchuk was standing near surveying equipment and was wearing an orange vest prior to the accident. However, there were no road signs to indicate that a surveyor was working.  Police do not suspect alcohol or speeding to be a factor in the accident. Hit-and-Run Crash in St. Petersburg Kills Motorcyclist, Police Looking for Suspect

Two Teenagers Killed, One Injured After Crash on I-275

St. Petersburg, FL (2/8/2020) – Two teenage girls died in a crash on I-275 on Saturday morning. The accident occurred around 6:21 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-275. Florida Highway Patrol states that the 18-year-old driver, whose name has not been released, tried to change lanes to get to the exit ramp at 22nd Avenue North when she hit a pickup truck. The teenager’s car spun across the interstate and ran into two trees on the shoulder of the exit ramp. The driver was rushed to the hospital and her condition is currently unknown. The two passengers in the car, Jiana Minaya, 16, and Keeoshia Edwards, 17, were pronounced dead at the scene. Neither of the passengers were wearing seatbelts. The two men in the pickup truck were uninjured in the crash. Investigators currently suspect alcohol was a major factor in the accident. Family and friends of the 16-year-old victim Jiana Minaya are mourning her untimely loss. They describe her as someone who acted tough, but was sweet and kind. She was an online high school student with a one-year-old daughter, a loving family, and many long-lasting friendships. Alexis Robertson, Jiana’s best friend since third grade, said that she “was always the light of the party” with “so much potential.” Matthew Miller, Jiana’s 16-year-old boyfriend, is not the biological father of her daughter, but says he will raise her in Jiana’s memory. Miller knew Jiana for about three years before they planned to get married and said that they wanted to have a child together when they turned 18 years old. Passenger Killed in Wrong-Way Crash Near Tampa International Airport Was Visiting Friends for Gasparilla

Victims of Deadly DUI Crash Near Tampa International Airport Identified

Tampa, FL (2/5/2020) – Two victims who died in a DUI-related crash near Tampa International Airport late last month have been identified. On January 26, Alexander Jacobson crashed into a ride-share car, killing both the driver and the passenger. Juan P. Santana was driving his 2009 Ford Fusion north on George J. Bean Parkway with his passenger William D. Holzapfel when Jacobson hit them head-on. The impact caused Jacobson’s Jeep Wrangler to drive over the roof of the Ford Fusion. Eyewitnesses say that Jacobson stumbled out of the Jeep wearing Gasparilla beads around his neck. One witness stopped to help and communicated with Jacobson through sign language since he is hard of hearing. She said that Jacobson had four to six beers before the accident. Tampa Police reported that Jacobson smelled of marijuana during questioning. They found three beer bottle caps and a small quantity of marijuana on his person during a search. One Dead, Four Injured in an Accident Involving a Jack-Knifed Semi in Hernando County

Hernando County, FL (2/4/2020) – A crash involving four vehicles left one person dead and several injured Monday afternoon. The accident occurred at about 4:10 p.m. on State Road 50 near Riverland Clay Sink Road. Florida Highway Patrol states that Jose Moreno, 38, was driving west on State Road 50 in his Chevy Malibu when he lost control and veered into the eastbound lane. He hit a Mack tractor-trailer driven by Oscar Paraza, 38, which then caused the tractor-trailer to cross into the westbound lane. The semi hit the side of a Toyota Tacoma driven by Eric Easter, 57, and then jack-knifed on the shoulder of the highway. After the semi stopped, a GMC Sierra driven by Garrett Cramer, 24, hit the tractor-trailer. Emergency services rushed Easter to the hospital, who was pronounced dead on arrival. Moreno and his passengers, Adrian Reyes, 28, and Genesis Reyna, 6, were taken to Lakeland Regional Hospital. Pereza also suffered serious injuries and was taken to Advent Health of Dade City. Cramer suffered minor injuries but did not go to the hospital. Troopers say the crash is still under investigation. The cause of the crash is unknown at this time. Pasco County, FL (1/27/2020) – Two drivers and three passengers were seriously injured after a head-on collision on Monday night. The crash occurred near the intersection of State Road 52 and McKendree Road at about 8:35 p.m. Troopers say Jennifer Jayne Knotts, 33, was driving westbound on SR 52 in her Ford Fusion when she failed to follow the curve of the road. She entered the path of Brenda Jean Lloyd, 46, who was driving eastbound and hit her Honda Odyssey. Knotts and Lloyd were severely injured in the crash and taken to Tampa General Hospital. Tampa, FL (1/27/2020) – A Land O’ Lakes man was arrested Monday night after causing a fatal crash at Tampa International Airport. Tampa police say that Alexander Bradford Jacobson, 30, was under the influence of both alcohol and marijuana during the accident. The crash occurred at 3:10 a.m. on the George J. Bean Parkway, which only allows northbound traffic. Jacobson was heading southbound on the parkway when he crashed his Jeep head-on into a Ford sedan. Driver Arrested After Killing Pedestrian with Truck on Bayshore Boulevard

Tampa, FL (1/9/2020) – On Thursday morning, a truck driver struck and killed a jogger on Bayshore Boulevard. The accident took place at around 11:13 a.m. just north of Bayshore and West Julia Street. The jogger, whose name has not been released, was running along the walkway when Benjamin Douglas Ehas, 31, hit him. The impact threw the jogger over the balustrade into the Hillsborough Bay. Ehas stumbled out of his vehicle and onto the ground. A few bystanders jumped into the water to save the jogger. Firefighters rushed him to the hospital once they arrived at the scene. Unfortunately, the jogger died of his injuries. Investigators suspected that alcohol was involved in the accident. Upon testing, Ehas had a blood alcohol level of 0.234, which is nearly three times the legal limit in Florida. Tampa Police arrested Ehas late Thursday night for DUI, manslaughter, and vehicular homicide. 5 Dead and 60 Hospitalized After Massive Pennsylvania Turnpike Crash

Greensburg, PA (1/5/2020) – Early Sunday morning, a crash involving a passenger bus, two tractor-trailers, and other vehicles left five people dead and several dozen injured. The crash happened at 3:40 am about 30 miles east of Pittsburgh on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Officials stated that as many as 60 people were hospitalized after the crash. According to a spokesperson for Excela Health, there were 25 victims transported to Excela Frick Hospital. More than a third of the patients were under 18. Pregnant Woman’s Unborn Baby Dies Following Pasco County Crash

Pasco County, FL (12/31/2019) – A woman’s unborn baby died today after the mother was in an accident earlier this month. Makala Marie Etheridge Lu, 22, was driving north on US 19 towards State Road 52 on December 20. Her only passenger was a 2-year-old girl, Sereneity Etheridge-Lucas. Gregory Armitage, 59, hit Etheridge Lu’s Kia from behind at a red light, causing her car to run into the car in front of her. The impact caused a chain reaction where a total of four cars were hit. Etheridge Lu suffered serious injuries, and her unborn baby was pronounced dead on Monday. Her passenger, Etheridge-Lucas, was not injured in the accident. DUI Crash in Zephyrhills Kills Corrections Officer

Zephyrhills, FL (12/12/2019) – Lauren Simone Lee, 30, died Thursday night in a crash with a drunk driver Jonathan Aldea Valeds, 36, drove drunk in a truck owned by his employer. The collision happened on U.S. 301 south of Zephyrhills around 6:27 pm.  Dade City company Megascapes Landscape and Maintenance, operates the truck Valdes drove. According to state troopers, Valdes lost control of his vehicle near Rapid Rivers Boulevard. Valdes swerved onto the eastern shoulder and into the southbound lanes.  Lee died at the scene of the crash. Valdes refused to cooperate. He behaved in a combative way when asked to complete sobriety tests and take part in a blood draw.  Valdes received charges of DUI Manslaughter and DUI Property Damage. Motorcyclist Dead in Multi-Vehicle Crash in Sarasota

Sarasota, FL (12/11/2019) – One motorcyclist is dead after a multi-vehicle crash. The collision occurred on I-75 near Fruitville around 7:30 pm on Wednesday.  Troopers stated that the crash involved one semi-truck and five motorcycles. One driver, 56-year-old David Boland, died in the crash. He separated from his bike when he struck the semi-truck. Four other motorcyclists lost control of their bikes after the collision. Police identified the four other motorcyclists, Rodger Moore, 55, Michael Houck, 40, Donald Kidwell, 51, and David Mashia, 50. EMTs transported them to the hospital under trauma alerts.
