Sumter County, FL (11/30/2019) – A woman from Clearwater suffered severe injuries in a crash on Saturday afternoon. The collision happened on I-75 near milepost 320 around 1:11 pm.
Christa Dietrich, 41, suffered severe injuries, and her passenger, 11, suffered minor injuries. Dietrich attempted to avoid a collision. Paramedics transported both to Brooksville Regional for treatment.
The accident occurred when traffic slowed. An unmarked Flordia Highway Patrol vehicle traveling north slowed to follow traffic. A 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe following the patrol vehicle also slowed. Dietrich failed to slow and took evasive action. She lost control of her car, hit the Chevrolet, and overturned. Dietrich’s Ford came to rest on the roof in the northbound lanes of I-75.
Alcohol is not a factor in the crash. Charges are pending.
Our hearts go out to all of those impacted by this tragedy. Car accidents like this one occur far too often in Florida. It’s essential that car accidents be thoroughly investigated so that the cause of the collision can be understood, and the responsible party can be identified and, if warranted, held accountable.
