Tampa Man Dies in Crash near Toll Plaza

Pasco County, FL (10/04/2019) – A man died Friday night in a tragic car accident near the Suncoast Parkway Toll Plaza.
Police identified the man as 50-year-old Scott J. Johnson. The crash occurred around 7:15 pm near the 23-mile marker. Mr. Johnson was driving a 2000 Acura NSX sports car when he lost control of his vehicle.
It is unknown what caused Mr. Johnson to lose control of the car. He skidded off of the highway, and his tires spun on the wet grass. Mr. Johnson hit a steel pole and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say that Mr. Johnson was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Mr. Johnson was alone in the car and there were no other injuries in the crash.
