Clearwater, FL (5/4/2020) – A woman from Clearwater and her passenger were taken to the hospital Sunday night following a crash with a pickup truck on the Courtney Campbell Causeway. The accident happened around 11:00 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of the causeway.

According to the Tampa Police Department, 36-year-old Diana Sofia Sandoval was heading west on the causeway in her 2018 Nissan Sentra when she lost control of the vehicle and hit a guardrail. She then over-corrected and drove into the eastbound lanes of the causeway, hitting a 2011 Ford F-150 driven by Eduardo R. Reices head-on.

Emergency responders rushed Sandoval to St. Joseph’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries. They also took Reices’ passenger, 27-year-old Olga Lugo Gonzalez to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with serious injuries.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash. So far, no charges have been filed.
